A report in this week's New Scientist says that sea levels are rising by 4mm/yr in the Gulf of Thailand compared to 1.8mm/yr in the rest of the oceans. How can this be so?
I wonder what effect geological processes would have on everyday items – if a geologist were to dig into the remains of one of our landfills say, a million years in the future, would anything be recognizable? Would glass survive? What would everything else have turned into?
Whilst walking in the snow i noticed that around electricy pylons the snow had formed a spiky texture similar to that of some cystal structures, all pointing in the direction of the pylons. Is this to do with magnetic attraction of the polar water molecules or something more comlex than my simple chemsitry can explain?
