Tram instead of trolley bus

In Sheffield, and other cities, a system of trams has been installed. This has involved major work laying the tram lines.

Why is this, overall, preferable to running trolley buses without needing rails ?

Why do orbital space craft have to slow down via atmosphere braking?

Could not one slow down in near vacuum and then simply return to earth at a much more sedate pace, thus negating the need for heat shielding?

Why do we freeze when we're in a vunerable position?

I live in central London (anyone who has driven through London will feel my pain here) and have several near-misses each month crossing the road on the way to school. I haven't been hit (fortunately) but have found that every time I have nearly been hit I freeze- even if I'm in the middle of the road.

I don't quite understand why I do that; I didn't stop consciously and it would surely make sense for me to keep walking until I was out of danger.

Could someone please explain this to me?

Global warming and human beings

Probably is a blind shot, but I would like to ask if somebody has calculated the impact in global warming of the direct heat. I am thinking for example in the human population (almost 7 billion with a constant  average temperature of 36.5 º C). And not only that, but the average temperature of all the cattle in the world kept by humans, (billions of animals that otherwise wouldn´t exist). Also we could think in the heat from fires (both wildfires and the small ones) and the heat that escapes from our homes, vehicules or industries.

Same but different?

I have been thinking and would like to know . Are there really any advantages in running cars on electric power? Isn't it just changing one fossil fuel to another. Could someone please tell me what the advantages of electric powered cars are.

If the combined exhausts of every car on the planet, were funneled through the channel tunnel, how much wind would it make?

A secondary Q; what electricity would it create when powering a wind turbine?
