In a road accident involving a bus, where would the safest place within the bus be?

I take the bus home from school everyday in winter and was just wondering what would happen to me should the bus crash.Since there are no seatbelts and many passengers stand, would the risk of serious injury or death be higher than in a car? And, where would the safest place be? Sitting facing the back wall, standing with a wall of people around me or somewhere else?

Many thanks,

Lana

Heads up! Colliding cars update!

Becorson asked a question about colliding cars. I drastically messed up the answer, as other forum members have pointed out. Since that question has scrolled off the front page, interested readers might be interested to check it up at this address:

Is a head-on car crash into a massive concrete wall the same as a head-on crash into another car moving at equal speed?

Assuming ideal conditions, with the two cars meeting perfectly head-on and moving at identical (and opposite) velocities, is the damage to the occupant of the first car indifferent to whether the car hits the immovable concrete wall or whether it hits the on-coming car?

Volcanic ash lands in the North, so what's been landing on my wheelie bin?

Reports that I've seen say that a very small amount of volcanic ash has landed in Northern parts of the UK. So what are the small white specks that have been landing on my black wheelie bin (and my neighbours black Porsche) since this episode started? I don't have a microscope, so I've been unable to study them in detail. I'm in Hampshire, not usually counted as "North UK".

Emergency exits on planes

In buildings, fire exits are marked in green, presumably because red indicates danger.

In safety briefings on planes, however, we are told that “white lights lead to red lights, which indicate the exits.”

Would it not be safer to have the white lights leading to green lights?

In a panic situation my normal reaction might be to avoid anything red.
