I'm listening to a digital radio broadcast over the internet. Downstairs I can here the same programme on an analogue radio. There is a clear time difference, very noticeable when the time pips came on for the news. Which version of the time should I set I set my clock to - digital or analogue? My watch is radio controlled by the National Physics Laboratory - which time is that set to?
Superconducting materials are said to have zero resistance. Not 'close to zero' – but actually zero. I’m probably missing something, but doesn’t that imply that they can carry unlimited currents? It doesn’t seem very believable - it would mean a thin superconducting wire could happily carry the output from all the power stations on Earth put together . . . Are there limits? If so what are they?
My theory on how this would work is that say you have the physics set up to produce tacyon particles. Then you have a network that you know they will follow at superluminal speeds. Would they interact (that is tacyons interact with tacyons)through that network? Then when the network is finished its calculation.
it would have to interact with a stream of newly created tacyons particles because those that are already calculating would be impossible to tell when they where finished. Those finished calculations would then interact at a somewhat random time when finished calculation, true given calculation of superluminal velocities you would be able to calculate aprox how long things should take.
I have read a lot of articles on the use of parabolic mirrors to focus light to a central tower, such as the article in 11 Dec 2010 on Gemasolar; but how can these mirrors be parabolic? A parabolic mirror will focus towards the center of the dish, which is why solar ovens put the food chamber in the center at the focal distance and towards the sun and TV dishes have the collecting devices in front of them towards the incoming signal. These dishes are all around the central tower, so some will have their front to the tower, some to the side, and some to the back (so to speak) of the incoming sun. Even shifting the angles of the mirrors would not allow the focus to be towards the central tower, but towards the location of the sun. Since the tower can not be in many places at once, how do all of these dishes focus to the central tower?
