Apple melt
The snow at the base of our small apple trees melts before snow elsewhere has melted. We've seen this under other trees too. Why?

(I don't think the tree gives off any metabolic heat)
Some heat from the sun is reflected off the trunk.
The air speeds up as is passes around the trunk.
