This video catches a little bird sitting on a car mirror and repeatedly jumping down to catch a look at himself. Is this a behavior that will persist in his bird brain so that he might seek out side view mirrors to preen in on future cars of assorted makes? Or is this a one-time occasion?
Curiosity killed the cat. The birds are now happy.
This is common behavior with animals such as cats. Since some animals are very teritorial putting them in front of a mirror freaks them out. However with cleverer animals eg. dolphin after a while they reconigze its them.
The mirror looks much like the one on my car. Mine has a space between the mirror and the supporting frame. I know that within that space dwells many insects and spiders. I suggest the bird had simply learnt to check out car mirrors for juicy tidbits. The reflection is irrelevent - it's just after lunch.
