What causes the asparagus urine smell?

Are there any other foods which affect urine this way? And why do people often report not noticing the smell until someone else points it out?

Wrong!

aspaginine (if such a compund exists) isn't the source of the

asparagus pee smell.

That is caused by some thiols split of from asparagus by

congestion. Wikipedias has the details.

Some persons can't smell this, this is documented.

Whether a tip improves the smelling? I doubt that.
