Could you treat a wasp sting by wiping a nettle on the exact spot?

As a wasp sting is an alkali and a nettle sting is an acid could you treat a wasp sting by wiping a nettle on the exact spot?

Last time I was up-country, I got stung by a bull ant or a wasp (both were crawling around).  Very painful, hurts for two days.  The old codger who owned the farm advised me to rub it with a nettle.  I couldn't find any: must admit I didn't look very hard.  Dock leaves are also a traditional remedy.
