My wife has brown hair brown eyes, mine blue/blonde, oru kids, blue blonde why?

Goes against what i was told about mendelian inheritance of dominant recessive alleles, both mine and my wifes parents have blue-ish eyes and blonde-ish hair, how can my wife have brown eyes and brown hair?? and then our kids should have one in 4 chance of double recessive blue/blonde alleles right?

p.s my wife is not adopted

The real reason is that virtually all textbooks oversimplify the inheritance pattern for eye and hair color. Neither is due to a single gene with just two options. Look closely at the iris of almost anyone and you will see that there are many colors, not just blue or brown.

So, you might have 'blue' eyes, but in reality you could still be carrying alleles for brown, which can be passed on. For more details, you can check out
