Are there left-handed pianos?

Southpaws would find it easier to have the high notes on the left.

Not as such, but you can remap some electronic piano-keyboards for different notes etc, so it should be do-able to arange one as a lefty.

Not sure that your south-paw idea holds up to inspection though, lots of lefties still use conventionaly handed items without any difficulty. I think you might be refering more to dyspraxic elements and tendancies more than actual leftyism.

Would be interesting to hear about some practical studies.

There is at least one left-handed piano, see http://www.lefthandedpiano.com/

Furthermore, simple plug-in module exists that converts your electronic keyboard to a "lefthand" arrangement.see http://www.lefthandedpiano.com/midi.html

That is the most inspired question I've ever heard.  What an imagination!

It requires a major factory re-tooling to make a left-handed piano.  You need a new mould to cast the mirror image of the iron frame, because you can't simply turn a right-handed piano's iron frame around and reverse the order of the hammers.  There are too many reinforcing steel spars which get in the way.

It would be a wonderful thing to have though.  Then again, perhaps it would separate the left-handers so much from the right-handers of the musical world, that harmony among them would be lost forever.

The Grand Illusions website has a short video of a young man playing a left-handed grand piano made by Blüthner, see http://www.grand-illusions.com/articles/unusual_music/
