Will sea levels rise?

DURING THE TIME UP TO SATS EXAMS THERE WAS A QUESTION ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING AND MELTING ICE CAPS.  IT SAID THAT AS THE CAPS SHRINK LEVELS WILL RISE BUT, I SAW IT AND THOUGHT FOR A BIT. ACCORDING TO ARCHIMEDES, THE LEVEL WOULD STAY THE SAME. THE CAPS WOULD MELT BUT, BECAUSE THEM MELTING WOULD RESULT IN LEVELS STAYING THE SAME WOULDN'T IT?  I TRIED THIS WITH A GLASS OF WATER AND AN ICE CUBE AND THE WATER DID NOT RISE. DOES ANYONE HAVE AN EXPLINATION OR IS IT JUST TOTAL RUBBISH?                                                                                                                                                                                                  Felix, 12 From Norwich

The ice already in the sea will not affect the level of the water once it melts. However, ice on land that melts and then flows into the sea will raise the level of the water, as you will find if you melt the ice-cube, then put the melt-water into the glass.

If any thing the ice is weighing down the coteries so then the ice melt they will rise out of the sea the reverse is in the ice age then the ice weighted down the coteries and the sea rose because the weight of the ice pushed the land mass in to the mantle. So the sea will stay the same if not sink.
