What would happen to modern technology if the magnetic poles "flipped"

Hi Paul,

>"The sometimes very damaging effects that we have had anyway, magnetosphere and all, have not been caused by charged particles penetrating the atmosphere, but by currents induced by charges moving high up in the sky." Charged particles, like maybe ionised meteorites?<

Well certainly, but in the context of solar wind I was thinking of electrons and  ionised nuclei! :-)

>And those currents in parallel wires (say, strands of barbed wire) having mutual induction? Hey, I really can hear meteors!<

Er... yes. Did you see the exchange between Pete and myself in which he pointed out how carelessly I had misread your question? It is frustratingly easy to miss messages in this software. My response had been one of admiration for your observation and speculated explanation. (I hope you get this message!)

>I just need some quantative data!<

Here you lose me. What was the antecedent? Are we discussing solar wind or meteorites or superconduction? Sorry!

Still listening!

Jon
