Martin Luther

once was asked : "What did God do before the first day of creation?

He answered that God was sitting in  shrubs  cutting whips for those

who ask silly questions.

According to Dirac there is no God, but there are silly questions still.

According to a common theory, nothing. Not even space or time! It’s incredibly hard to visualize I’m even having trouble comprehending it. There is another theory suggesting that there was another big bang before that. While our universe is expanding now, but at a decreasing rate, according to that theory the universe will reach a point where it will start to collapse in on itself. After a while, the universe will get squashed into nothing- like a reverse big bang. Some think that this will trigger another big bang, and everything will be re-created (then re-collapsed), overall creating a never-ending chain of big bangs. To be honest, I think this theory was created for the same reason you asked your question. The idea of time ending or beginning is strange and very hard comprehend let along fully believe. Stubborn old-fashioned scientists like to hold on to what they know and trust so the idea of a chain of big bangs is like a compromise saying the creation and end of time is endless. This is only a theory, and there are many many more.
