This is only half of the truth.
Bees (European Honeybees) to be precise, have a kind of hook
at their sting.
This hook will stick to the victims flesh in case the victim is an animal
with skin and flesh like mammals. When the Bee moves away, the
sting remains in the victim and all the whole sting including the
bladder with the venom is pulled out of the bees abdomen,
causing the bees death.
In case the victim is an insect (e. g. a wasp) the sting goes in between
the segments of the victim. In that case the sting is removed without
harm for the bee.
In general the "moral" is simply the number of bees in a hive.
There are about 30 000 bees in a healthy hive, missing some hundred
of them will not cause a problem.
My personal impression is, the smaller the number of individua
in a insect state, the less agressive they are.
