What is the point in a bee's sting?

I can understand the point of a sting if it doesn't kill the animal in the process of stinging something, however the bee dies after stinging something/thing.

The only reason for this that I can think of is for the benefit of other bees- if an animal gets stung once, they are likely to leave all other bees alone.

Also, does a bee know they are going to die if they sting something?

And also bear in mind that social insects don't exist as separate organisms in quite the way that you or I do. The main difference is that most of them don't get to pass on their genes to their offspring (not directly, anyway).

This is only half of the truth.

Bees (European Honeybees) to be precise, have a kind of hook

at their sting.

This hook will stick to the victims flesh in case the victim is an animal

with skin and flesh like mammals. When the Bee moves away, the

sting remains in the victim and all the whole sting including the

bladder with the venom is pulled out of the bees abdomen,

causing the bees death.

In case the victim is an insect (e. g. a wasp) the sting goes in between

the segments of the victim. In that case the sting is removed without

harm for the bee.

In general the "moral" is simply the number of bees in a hive.

There are about 30 000 bees in a healthy hive, missing some hundred

of them will not cause a problem.

My personal impression is, the smaller the number of individua

in a insect state, the less agressive they are.

Are mans nations similar?
