Absolutely. There are many recorded cases of animals getting drunk on fermenting fruit. In the case of elephants, this can be a real problem if they come near a village. It is not clear whether they actually seek out the fermenting fruit, or whether it is accidental.

There is a delightful old movie on animal behaviour called "Animals are Beautiful People" (also just "Beautiful People") by a South African director/writer Jamie Uys from 1974.  It features the lifes and times of the animals of the Namib desert.  In a hilarious sequence a number of animals eat fermented fruit fallen from a big marula tree.  Yes, they do get very drunk!  You can see the clip here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5E5TjkDvU0  Not only do they get drunk, they get hangovers as well.

Sorry to disappoint you, but (un)fortunately (depends how you see it...) the story is absolutely false! In fact, Jamie Uys' footage was totally staged and the animals were in fact fed with alcohol (hard to believe I know...). The directors soaked the food and then filmed it! Today the film would've made a scandal, but back then it was another story!

Funny you ask that but my sister phoned me this morning to tell me that found her dog, Boris, was staggering around with his eyes bulging, his belly bloated and he was completely unable to balance.

She took the dog to the vet who suggested that maybe he had a neurological disorder. She explained that the dog had gobbled up all the dough for making the bread during the night, and the vet said "Aha! In that case he's obviously drunk!"

Clearly the yeast from the dough had enough alcohol in it to make the poor dog sozzled, and it had carried on fermenting inside his guts.

There we go... dogs can get drunk off dough.
