Why does milk expand to fill the bottle right up to the foil cap when it's only a day or so old?

If this is the type of bottle, I see there's not much room for expansion.
Maybe your refrigerator is not so cold and thermal expansion is enough to cause this.
Perhaps as the milk sours it generates gasses that tend to increase the volume of the milk.
