Not everybody has just 5 fingers

Your dad might have seen Gemma Arterton on TV ~ she is a Bond girl & she has 6 fingers. But your dad may not have noticed Gemma's fingers - dads don't notice stuff like that

I think a good number of fingers is 4 or 5. When you get to 6 or more they get in the way of each other

The reason why most people have 5 fingers is probably just chance
