What is the average temperature of matter in the universe?

My husband was complaining I was too hot as I lounged over him.  I pointed out that at 310K I was actually quite cool, in the grand scheme of things, since temperatures range from 0K to many trillions of degrees.  He retorted that, no, I was hot, as the average temperature of the universe was a little under 3K.  This figure presumably includes all of space's vacumn.  What would the average temperature be if you only considered matter?  I'm working on the basis that if I can "win" two points out of three then I'm not hot!

cheeky or nosey

When I am at home or at work and it's rather cold in the room, my nose starts feeling cold long before my cheeks do.

When I ride my bike and there is cold wind blowing into my face, my cheeks feel icy but my nose still feels OK.

What makes this difference?

Maximising overnight weight loss

Do I throw back the bed clothes to make my body work harder to keep me warm, or do I pull on an extra blanket to help increase my metabolic rate?

Which effect dominates? Is either significant?

What temperature of the environment would be most efficient for the body

Our bodies use energy to cool us down in hot environments (sweat) and warm us up in cold environments (shivering). If our internal body temperature is roughly 37 degrees C what is the ideal temperature of the environment that we would use least energy taking into account heat released from our metabolic activity?

How does the body get electrical energy from food?

In common parlance, one would say the body 'burns' food, and, indeed, we are warm creatures due to some kind of exothermic reaction(s) inside us, yet our muscles and brain work on electrical impulse. Is this the most efficient conversion of heat to useful energy we know of, or is the electrical energy converted from chemical potential energy somewhere?
