TOUCHING RAINBOWS

On December 18th at 11am my ten year old son, Jake, noticed these rainbows high up in the sky, almost overhead (see photo). The brighter one is inverted and the dark area is the roof of a building. What causes this?

how does a cloud get the rainbow colours?

I saw this cloud (attached image) in Menorca last week and wondered how the colours formed? i know how a normal rainbow is formed and thought it would be the same or similar process as clouds are mainly water vapour, but if that is the case how come not every cloud produces these colours? because its seems like a rare occurrence to me since this is the first time i have ever seen it happen.

Why are there seven colours in a rainbow?

Why not 6 or 8 or 15 or whatever.

Why are rainbows in a circle when you see them from a small plane?

My grandchildren are asking this question. Me and my brother Flynn had a question for you and it is: when we were flying in a plane to King Island we saw a rainbow that was in a shape of a circle and we were wondering why it was in the shape of a circle. From Charlotte Haubold aged 10 and Flynn Haubold aged 6. Grassy, King Island, Tasmania

Rainbows at night

When I'm walking home from work at night, in the suburb, I can see rainbows around the sodium street lamps. They are usually best seen from about 10 metres away, and the rainbow's about a metre or ttwo out from the street lamp.

I've asked my friends, but nno one else can see these... is it normal?

why is the light in the inner arch of a rainbow allways lighter than the outside
