Is it possible to see Atoms?

I heard from my teacher, that its not possible to see Atoms, because they are "energy levels",

but I saw here and there silhouette pictures from atomic structures.

Does anybody think that our solar system is nothing more than a tiny atom, of something very huge?

Consider a tiny cell. And in this cell there are millions of atoms(or more). Now consider a galaxy where it too, includes millions of solar systems(which looks like atoms).

So the question is, does anybody else think that our solar system is nothing more than a tiny atom inside a cell(known as the Milky Way) of something very, very huge?

Is thought and consciousness the reason we exist in this dimension?

 Is it the reason we exist at all? Because atoms can be in more than one place at any time it is not until an atom is measured or viewed that it then takes up the position that it does, so without anything to view it an atom is in many places at the same time, do our thoughts cause this three dimensional universe we live in to exist, to be, to happen? without some sort of consciousness, a viewer, be it human or any other life form this universe would not be here, I would not be writing this and you would not be reading it. Is life just thought? And so does it gives us the ability to live in a physical form in a three dimensional world?

Could the bubbles EVER go down?

Hypothetically, if you had a gas made of really heavy atoms/molecules (although it's unlikely that they would be stable at the kind of Uranium-heavy I'm thinking of, let's say that hypothetically they are) in a liquid made of really really light molecules or atoms (e.g hydrogen), and say that temperature isn't going to change the given states of the elements (very very hypothetically), and so they can exist in the states they need to together, could the bubbles go down? Or would the relative densities make the masses of the atoms and molecules irrelevant?

What mechanism causes the vibration of a single atom under increased temperature.

For example I am wondering, in the following thought experiment: If you have a single atom resting in a vacum and it is hit by a photon, causing it to heat, what is the reason for the resulting motion of the atom? i.e. what intrinsic changes occour in a single atom when heat is applied.

How did they know they were firing a proton when they split the atom for the first time?

When physicists first split the atom by firing a proton at it, how did they a/ get a proton in the first place, and b/ know they were firing a proton, since they had not yet split the atom?

Could this answer what was before the big bang?

O.K, so the universe stared life as a primeval atom, or a similar object??Well what was that object in?Answer: well... it could be dark matter (or a substance unknown to us...which dark matter is)What if dark matter acted as normal matter, the large 'vacuum' which was 'outside the universe' is actually eternal dark matter and the grouping of this into a central point due to a gravity type force, if not gravity itself, could lead to collisions of dark matter.This in turn could transform energy and may create 'matter' as we know it today. The transformation of dark matter to normal matter could be what we would perceive as an expansion of matter, which could link in with theories of inflation and thus the continued transformation of dark to normal matter could explain why the universe is expanding.Therefore the expanding universe could be a result of a far greater infinite (perhaps) expanse of dark matter.Only a theory, not very well explained or backed up in anyway, but thought I could lay it out on the table for you all to prod and jab at the concepts that could make it work.

Compressing Bose-Einstein Condensates

If you took some incompressable material that takes up, say, exactly 1 liter, and you cooled them to the point where all of the atoms became Bose-Einstein Condensates (sorry if im using the name in a wrong way), what would happen if you compressed the container/forced the condensates into another container with a volume of 1 cup, and then heated the material (so when the waves become atoms again, there is not enough space for all the atoms)? Would the atoms break the container, or become some sort of superimposed atom, or something else?

If you removed all empty space from within the atoms that make up my body would the resulting mass be visable?

Excluding any blackholes or other exotic phenomena, how small would the earth become if you removed all the empty space from its atoms (approx of course). I did email these questions to newscientist years ago, but never did get any feedback.

How can glass be see-through?

I know that a solid is solid because the atoms are packed closely together, but if this is true, then how can we see through solid substances such as glass if there is no space between the atoms?
