I live in central London (anyone who has driven through London will feel my pain here) and have several near-misses each month crossing the road on the way to school. I haven't been hit (fortunately) but have found that every time I have nearly been hit I freeze- even if I'm in the middle of the road.

I don't quite understand why I do that; I didn't stop consciously and it would surely make sense for me to keep walking until I was out of danger.

Could someone please explain this to me?

I take the bus home from school everyday in winter and was just wondering what would happen to me should the bus crash.Since there are no seatbelts and many passengers stand, would the risk of serious injury or death be higher than in a car? And, where would the safest place be? Sitting facing the back wall, standing with a wall of people around me or somewhere else?

At the site of car accidents or unfortunate happenings there will always be crowds of people watching (and sometimes taking photographs).So why are humans so attracted to these things? Surely this is not a survival advantage since this curiousity would have led many people into trouble if the police hadn't been there to keep them back.
