Could I get the same effect as that described by replacing the microphone with someone totally deaf in one ear?

If I play an old mono song on my stereo and reverse the wires (phase) of one speaker, I can find a spot where a mono microphone will fail to pick up any sound (as long as the speakers are angled correctly and the room isn't too reflective).

Why does the space between my ear and my skull smell like cheese?

Recently, I have had a bout of exma in the small space between the top of my ear and my head. Whenever I scratch behind there, my finger smells like very strong (and slightly off) cheese for about half an hour afterwards. Even after the exma has gone, the smell lingers. Is there any reason for that?

How does directional hearing *really* work?

The standard answer to this question is that our brain picks up the tiny difference between the times at which a sound arrives at each ear, and from this figures out where the sound is coming from. But simply selecting points with a particular difference in their distances will yield an entire conical surface of possible origins. Distance, I suppose, can be judged from the softness of the noise, but how do we tell which of the possible directions the sound is actually coming from?
