Does the Neanderthal has a different ancestor? And where they came from?

Are we all blind?

Last week, I helped a blind guy cross the road and while we were crossing the road I asked him if blind people can hallucinate and have dreams. He said "Of course we can". I researched this and it turns out that blind people can in fact hallucinate.

This got me thinking. I was wondering if it is possible that we are all blind and we are all hallucinating the same things?

How far have primates left to evolve?

I read somewhere recently that humans had all but finished evolving over the natural course of time. Whether that may be disputed or not, what I'm wondering is this: in some fifteen million years (which, according to David Attenborough's Life On Earth, is the amount of time it took us to make the transition) will primates evolve to be like us?

Are veins linked to handedness?

Being a regular athlete, i have visible veins standing out from both my arms. However, many more veins protude from my right arm than my left, and those that do, protude further. I can only assume that this means i have greater blood circulation in my right arm. I am right handed - could these 2 facts be linked? I have noticed this in other people too, with all having more veins in their favoured arm. Does the hand we favour need more oxygen to function, or does the factc that the arm has more oxygen make the arm ones favourite?

Round and round

Athletics tracks are always run anticlockwise. Does this favour particular runners? Races could surely be run either way, so why never clockwise?Peter Hallberg, Stockholm, Sweden(Image: dlritter, stock.xchng)

Thinking person's crumpet

A little while ago we froze a packet of those pancake-like products that in these parts we call crumpets. At the time, the sealed plastic packet seemed to contain a lot of air, but after four months in our freezer it had contracted tightly against the crumpets, which had also shrunk. After two more months at room temperature, the whole package appeared to have shrunk still further, though with no sign of mould or decay (see photo, left). The ingredients are listed as flour, water, yeast, raising agents, E450, E500, salt, sugar, preservative, calcium propionate. What's going on?Chris Greenwood, Ettington, Warwickshire, UK
