Something eats wasps I spotted this amazing sight (see Photo) in Croatia in July 2007. In light of New Scientist's book Does Anything Eat Wasps, I'd like to know what's going on here. Track challenge

It must be easier to run in a straight line than it is to run around a bend. And the tighter the bend, presumably, the slower you have to run.In a standard Olympic 400-metre race, run in lanes, the staggered starts are presumably arranged so that the competitors all run exactly 400 metres. What disadvantages do runners on the inside lanes face? It seems unlikely that they can ever run as fast as the athletes in the outside lanes.Angela Whitcliffe, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

Fungal goodness We are constantly being exhorted to eat five servings of fruit or vegetables a day, cut down on red meat, eat more fish and so on. Fly catcher The fungus in the photo (left) appeared on rotting, chopped-up trees used as mulch in our garden. It is about 10 centimetres in diameter and appears to feed on insects, and so has an appropriate stink of rotting flesh. What is it?Ted Webber, Buderim, Queensland, Australia

On the blink When I watch digital TV channels from terrestrial transmitters, I have to endure periodic disruptions during which the audio and images start stuttering. I recently realised that the disturbances occur every time motorbikes - and particularly scooters - pass my house. It doesn't happen with cars. Don't think about it

As a secretary, my job involves a lot of typing. If I am not concentrating on what I am doing, I can type very quickly and accurately, but as soon as I think about it, where the keys are, for example, I type like a fool, extremely slowly and with numerous errors. The same applies to plenty of other activities, such as playing the piano, driving a car, even reading and talking. If you think about what you are doing you do it less efficiently. Why?tbc
