What are pins and needles?

It happens to all of us, having sat on a limb or sometimes just out of the blue we are afflicted by this weird sensation. We've all had them at some stage in our livelihoods but what are pins and needles?

Can you get rid of Headlice by holding your head underwater?

When I caught nits when I was younger, I remember trying to get rid of them by combing and chemicals. This was time consuming and, sometimes, uncomfortable. Wouldn't it be simpler just to drown them? If you can drown Headlice, how long would it take?

Why does the colour of facial hair appear to change during the growth of a beard?

When I grow a beard, ginger and grey facial hairs start to appear amongst my usual dark coloured hairs, but only after about a week or so of growth.  Is this a case of the original hairs changing colour (or appearing to change colour) over time, or is there some reason why the ginger and grey coloured hairs appear to start growing at a later stage in the life of my beard?  Any suggestions gratefully received.

Blind to the truth?

Mu mum says that if I read under the bedclothes using a torch (flashlight) I will damage my eyesight. I told her it's an urban myth, but am I right?

Is there any chance of an invisibility cloak?

After watching Harry Potter the other day, I wondered whether it would be possible to make a working invisibility cloak. If so, any suggestions on how it woild work would be useful.

What would an intelligently designed human look like?

One of the key arguments against intelligent design is that as a species we humans aren't designed well. For example: child birth, due to the narrow birthing canal and huge heads of our offspring, can quite often be fatal. The fact that our esophagus and trachea stem from same opening poses risk of choking hazard. The appendix's only job appears to be getting infected.

So my question is what would an intelligently designed human look like? Are our organs in their optimal place? Is there any thing we could stand to loose/gain?

Is dieting a cause of common ailments/diseases.

A release of toxins into the system has recently been identified as a symptom of dieting. Have these toxins been linked to other ailments/diseases whose triggers we have not understood to date.
