What age does a photographic / eidetic memory start?

People with 'normal' memory can't remember much from before the age of 2, but is this the same for people with an eidetic memory? And does the eidetic memory start off fractured (as normal memory does) and evolve, or is it instant from the age it kicks in?

At the age of 2 I got shocked when I stuck a fork into an electrical outlet (!). I don't remember the pain, but I clearly recall an (sort of static) image of my surroundings; the window, the curtain and the outlet. The funny thing is; when I at an age of 20 described what I recalled from the room to my mom, she told me that my image was inverted. The outlet was on the left, and not the right side of the window and the curtain the opposite. But anything else fitted my description.

I recall nothing else from that age, btw..

I remember an interview on the radio where the fellow told of how he had spoken to his father about a shop called (say) "Smith General Stores". His father was astonished, because the name of the shop had changed to "Bloggs' Supplies" before the interviewee was 3. He (the interviewee) took this as proof that he had been re-incarnated, because he could read the shop name long before he had been taught to read.

I assumed that he had remembered an image of the sign in his mind and read it once he was able (thus enabling me to retain my doubts about reincarnation!).

So - on the strength of that one anecdote alone - I would say that eidetic memory can probably kick in quite early.

What is this peculiar light phenomenon?

This photo was taken by my neighbour in Tucson, Arizona, facing west at sunset. What is the peculiar light phenomenon?

The camera automatically fired its flash in the relatively dark sunset and that flash is reflecting off an insect flying near your camera. The slow shutter speed for dark conditions and the blurring caused by the insect being too close to the lens gives the effect of an impressive streak. The surrounding visual clues (clouds, the landscape) lead you to believe it's something very large and a long way off.
