Why do they always say that it's the universe that's expanding rather than us that is shrinking?

Even leaving aside suggestions that the universe is one big black hole, surely it is equally valid, and actually simpler, to think that we are shrinking reletive to the universe rather than the universe expanding. Dark energy is a force that makes us shrink faster and gravity is what prevents us from vanishing altogether?

Universe creation and inflation

I'm a great believer in string theory and like the idea of two branes colliding (in a higher dimension) to explain the spontaneous creation of our universe. Now imagine a simple example of two large rings of bubble liquid held close in parallel - they naturally wobble and the two membranes randomely happen to touch (creation instance). As the films merge (branes) the tension would cause a non-uniform expansion of the resultant hole - most likely increasing in size with time. Could this be a possible explanation for idea of inflation in our universe?

does light travel forever?

I was reading an article about an object 625 million LY away and I went wondering if the ligth does "decays" or "run out"  of energy sometime

i know the ligt and radio waves from distant stars reach very faintly to us most of it absorbed b the intrestelar media (dust etc.)

to create ligth you have to transfer energy to an electron in cuantic packets, so the energy that each photon have is limited rigth?

in a hypotetical infinite universe could the light travel forever?
